Christmas at the Lopesan Resort

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

We spent our Christmas at the new Lopesan Resort in Bavaro, Dominican Republic. We had an amazing time at this luxurious 5 star resort!

We found the Lopesan Resort on the CheapCaribbean Website on a last minute deal. The flights from the New York City area were incredibly expensive. We were looking at $2,500 (each) fares with a stop over. It just didn't make sense. However, looking around we saw that the flights from Miami were very affordable. We would save about $3,000 by driving. So we decided to pack up the car and head to Miami. In hindsight, it was well worth it!

After a long drive and a short stay at the awesome Nuvo Suites Hotel in Doral, Florida, we headed to the airport and were on our way to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We landed at the airport shortly before midnight.

Cheapcaribbean was offering transportation to the resort for $75 per person. Knowing the prices in Dominican Republic, we refused to pay that price. It took us a while to look through all the numerous deals that were offered by transfer services. We were not sure that we could trust any of the services.

We booked our airport transfer with Punta Cana Limo Transfer. This was one of our best decisions on the trip. They had a driver waiting for us, with a sign, as soon as we exited airport. We received VIP treatment from door to door for a very affordable price.

However, before we exited the airport, we were stopped by a group of people that were trying to get us to stay at another resort. They offered to show us the way to the taxi, but that was not the case. We listened for a bit to check out their sales pitch. It sounded like a time-share plot, even though they claimed otherwise. Just walk right by them, the taxis are right around the corner.

We were picked up by Punta Cana Limo Transfer in an upscale SUV. There were plenty of taxi drivers available, however, you never know the price and you have to hope that you get an honest taxi driver. The average price to get to The Lopesan Resort is about $30. We were able to find a great deal with the Punta Cana Limo Transfer and only paid a few dollars more than we would for a Taxi. Considering the service, vehicle, and security that came with it, it was money very well spent. We highly recommend this service. We also decided to use them for one of our excursions which we will write about at a later time.

Check-in

The Lopesan Resort is HUGE. It seemed like we drove forever once we got on to the property. However, once we were in the lobby, we were highly impressed. Check-in was a breeze. We were on our way to our room in a little more than 5 minutes. Although we were not told at check-in, we were given a free upgrade and upgraded to a room in the Adults Only section of the resort. We were informed what was open for food at the time, but we decided to skip the long walk and eat in the morning.

The resort is extensive. It is HUGE! However, once you get the feel for the property and start using all the short cuts, it becomes a little more manageable. There is definitely enough to do and explore on the resort. Bring comfortable shoes. You can find an expandable resort map here.

From the beach to The Boulevard, The Lopesan is sure to have features that will satisfy anyone's personal tastes. The beach area is clean and extensive. There are numerous pools seamlessly integrated throughout the complex. Great luxurious rooms for all to enjoy. Fabulous and diverse buffets and restaurants to satisfy diverse pallets. A Boulevard filled with fun activities for the entire family, great shopping, an amazing water park for the kids, and a state of the art theater with world class performers. Not to mention a very helpful and courteous staff that is willing to go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable.

It is easy to write thousands of words on all our wonderful experiences at the Lopesan, but as they say a picture is worth a thousand words. We will let the pictures do the talking. Keep in mind that these pictures were taken with a regular cell phone and are not professional pictures.
